How to measure your Ideal Pet

To determine the correct size door, simply measure the width (A) and height (B) of your pet.

(A) Measure the widest point of your pet's shoulder.

(B) Measure from the top of your pet's back (just behind their head) to the bottom of chest.

Pet door models have different size openings. Just make sure your new pet door's opening is both wider and taller than your pet's measurements to ensure they can comfortably pass through.

    Thank goodness for replacement parts!

Our two 90 lb dogs like to run through their Ideal Pet door at full speed. After 4 years the rubber hinges started to tear. After repeatedly trying to keep the hinges in one piece with super glue, we finally got smart & checked to see if we could get replacement parts. The hinges were pretty easy to replace. Just be sure to take your time. The dogs are happy and so are we!

    worked great

This is the less expensive way to go, but it does take a little work to get the doors apart and install the new hinges, FYI the magnets in each door tend to fall out when you take the plastic panels apart and they are directional. We put our door together after re-installing the magnets that fell out and had to take it apart again to spin the magnets so they attract the door jam hinges. Hold the magnet to the dog door jam and spin it until it attracts to the jam magnet then install it in the panel the same way.

    Lasts forever

We purchased our original pet door more than 10 years ago. The door gets A LOT of use. In the recent high winds, both of the rubber hinges finally gave out. The new hinges came quickly, were super easy to install and I'm hoping we'll get another 10 years out of this set of hinges. This is the only pet door I recommend!

Not Durable, Expensive, and a Hassle To Replace

Posted by Kevin Rusch on 3rd Nov 2017

After a little over a year, one of the rubber hinges on out Airseal door tore, rendering the door useless. Two little rubber strips for $15 plus shipping feels ridiculous considering that you are likely to have to buy yearly or bi-yearly (depending on the size of your door), not to mention that you don't have use of your pet door while waiting for the hinges to arrive. That's bad enough, but the replacement process which I expected to take five minutes too a half hour and a whole lot of frustration (I'm not mechanically challenged, either). I ended up tearing the second hinge while trying to fix the first and ended up having to remove inside portion of the pet door completely from our back door to be able to replace the hinges. My feeling is that the less you unscrew these types of things the better. And per the instructions, you have to pry the Airseal's brittle panels apart every time you replace a hinge, which feels like a problem in the making. Additionally, while disassembling the door, I found out that one of the panels screw-holes was stripped from the factory. I liked the door well enough until this fiasco; now I have no faith in it - I've never had problems with the rubber flap style doors in the past and I would suggest saving yourself a headache by going with one of those instead. Oh, and the instructions show the flap panels removed from the door surround as a unit (the top hinge is metal and appears to be more or less permanently affixed to the surround) but there's no indication of how to do this or if it's even possible.

    Wore out to quickly

I ordered this product after only having it installed for about 6 months. I understand there is a warranty but I didn’t feel like jumping through hoops to get it replaced so I ordered 2 replacement parts because I am sure I will need them soon. I paid extra for priority mail, only to find out later it didn’t even get picked up until two days later (ordered Monday sent out 2:00pm Wednesday). When I installed also noticed a crack in the top pane and the weather stripping is coming apart on the side

    won't go in to slot

I ordered the hinge set for my XL dog door and despite following the directions and almost completely dismantling the entire door, I cannot get the replacement hinges in. I'm back to using duct tape on the door.

    Hinge Replacement

Posted by Unknown on 18th Oct 2017

It was a little slow doing the change of it, but then before we could say boo, it was in. I think the new one works better when the dogs go thru it. Last time this happened, I replaced the 3 pieces.
